Study Break Yoga with Alana

In the competitive world of high school, yoga can help destress and decompress after a long day of studies.

Study Break Yoga is catered specifically for high school students aged from 15 to 18, providing them with a comfortable and supportive environment in which to practise with their peers and friends.

On the first Thursday of each month Alana will teach a yoga session that progressively builds students’ capacity to manage their school stresses - through yogic movement, breath, relaxation and focusing techniques.

Students will be given a Home Practice Program to follow between 10 and 15 minutes a day over the month and will be able to ask Alana questions about their practice at any time through an online group forum page, as well as discuss their yoga practice and school life with the other students in the group.

At each session, students will revise, progress and add to their skills for stress management and connect with a group of like-minded teens who want to take charge of their own wellbeing during their final years of high school.

Alana was a Year 11 & 12 Co-ordinator and Senior English and French teacher at Queenwood School and is now a yoga teacher, hence has specific experience in high school and yoga education to share with students.


What's included

- at each session, students will receive a 10-15 minute Home Practice Handout - to take away and practise daily for the next month

- anline support group, with the opportunity to ask questions, connect and share experiences of their practice or study with like-minded peers.

About the teacher

Alana is a passionate hatha yoga teacher specialising in yoga for stress and anxiety management. She particularly understands the needs of high school students as she was an English and French teacher and Year Co-ordinator at Queenwood School for Girls. Students love her teen yoga classes and courses, reporting a much greater capacity to manage their stress levels through yogic skills.

Alana integrates postures, breathing, relaxation and meditation into her balanced classes. She emphasises steady, safe practice and a focus on personal inner experience to bring about a state of relaxation and wellbeing. 

Alana trained at the International Yoga Teachers Association (IYTA) under the tutelage of David Burgess, a master teacher of pranayama and meditation. Due to her passion for yoga philosophy and practice, Alana is now involved in developing and delivering the IYTA teacher training diploma. 

Alana also loves to dance, garden, cuddle her goats and pooches, and is an advocate of zero-waste living.
