Classes & Course Descriptions

What we teach
Manly Yoga and Meditation Centre offers a range of courses and casual classes. All classes are 1.5 hour and consist of postures, breathing practices, relaxation and meditation.

Yoga postures
taught in class begin gently and are explored in a non-competitive atmosphere with an emphasis on steadiness, comfort and awareness. The postures help invigorate the body, improve health and flexibility, and remove tensions.

Breathing practices aim to awaken, balance and expand the life energy within us. The practices induce relaxation and help ease mental and emotional disturbances.

Relaxation practices
help de-stress body and mind and support healing. Yoga Nidra™ is the main practice for deeply relaxing all layers of our being.

Meditation practices
cultivate awareness, calmness and serenity. Ultimately, meditation brings a deeper understanding of our inner nature and is a tool for enhancing concentration, will power and reducing stress.

Courses & Classes

By attending a course you will steadily progress in your learning and experience of the yoga practices. Manly Yoga and Meditation Centre offers a variety of courses, including:

Introductory Yoga Level 1

This course is designed to support new students in learning an appropriate foundation of yoga practices, including postures, breathing practices, relaxation and meditation techniques for their physical, mental and inner well being. Students are encouraged to practice at their own level of comfort and capacity and are shown ways of varying the yoga practices to support their individual flexibility, fitness and health needs. We recommend that student do this course  twice with 80% attendence before moving  to Level 2. The course may be also be further repeated if required.

Introductory Yoga Level 2
This course is for students who have completed an Introductory Level 1 course and who are now wishing to extend their experience and knowledge of the various practices of yoga. Students are also introduced to an understanding of the energy body and how yoga practices influence the well being of this subtle aspect of the personality. Students need to consult their teacher before enrolling and purchase the Asana, Pranayama, Mudra and Bandha yoga text book. There are many practices which can be covered in this level that we recommend students stay at this level for about a year.

Progressive Yoga
This level is for students who have been attending classes regularly for at least 2 years. It is for people who wish to progress in their practice of asana, pranayama and meditation.
Building on Introductory Level 2, in this course students progress into deeper levels of postures, breathing and meditation techniques. Students are also introduced to the philosophies of yoga to help them integrate their understanding of yoga into their everyday lives. The course may be repeated as required.

Prenatal Yoga
This course includes gentle postures, breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation for prenatal students to support them in pregnancy, birth and motherhood. This popular course can be joined at any time.

Sunrise Classes
These classes are 1 hour classes consisting of yoga postures with a focus on the practice of Salute to the Sun. Each class finishes with a 15 minute relaxation.

Deep Relaxation (Yoga Nidra™)
A one hour class consisting of gentle yoga postures and a full 30 minute lying down, deep relaxation practice (Yoga Nidra )

Strengthening Yoga
A class comprised of yoga postures which make up the "Rishikesh Series". The Rishikesh Series is a sequence of the classical yoga postures which develop strength along with flexibility. The Rishikesh Series also has a profound effect on the endocrine and hormonal systems of the body.

Seniors
A friendly, sociable class for ages 60 and over. You will increase joint suppleness, strength, flexibility, lung capacity, memory and concentration.

Mums & Little Ones
A class for mums & their little ones aged 0-6 years. A nice way to connect with other mums.

Mantra & Chanting
Taught by expert practitioner of mantra, Swami Muktimurti. Mantra & Chanting are a part of nada yoga, the yoga of sound. Nad means 'flow of sound vibrations', and yoga means 'to unite or merge with'. Nada yoga is the practice of using subtle sound vibrations as a vehicle to transcend the mind and experience inner unity.

Casual Classes
Casual classes are taught at a level suitable for beginners and experienced students. These classes may be joined at any time and are available to everyone. They are held during and in between terms. Booking is not required.

The Centre offers a number of different times for people to attend classes and courses and so cater for the needs of students with a range of work and family commitments. If you are enrolled in a course and are unable to attend your regular class, the yoga centre supports you to make up your class at a more appropriate time, or transfer to another course (where available) within the term.
